New Things

Yes I know.. it has been way to long.. and no this post will not cover everything that has occured. In fact it is only to let you all know that I am still alive and I haven´t forgotten to update… only I haven´t had the time! I have moved into my own house… I will post photos later. It is a nice little abode with two rooms divided by plywood boards and a dirt floor kitchen.  I do have electricity and amazingly enough I can actually get cell service in a corner inside my house.. quite handy indeed. I also live with an adorable little puppy.. sirena! She is 2 months old.. just got her about a week ago. I am hoping this deters any friendly or not so friendly neighborhood bolos from peeking in my house at night!  Time has really gone by really fast. I have started to work with the school a bit and we are going to try to do a school garden to help with the nutrition of the students and also to give them practice on being responsible and learning how to garden on their own. Right now we are looking for funding to build a fence because they always have prolems with all types of animals coming in and eating their gardens. I am going to be painting a huge world map on the school wall as well. I can´t wait to start. Hopefully I can get the mayor to fund this venture .. I have to talk to her some time this week or next.  I hope all of you are doing well back in the states and enjoy the cold weather. I too wouldn´t mind enjoying a bit of cold weather, I don´t quite remember what it is like to be cold! Haha

Until later

  1. Ah, sounds like you are enjoying yourself, Joanna. I do hope you find funding for your various projects; they sound important.

It has been cold here in Knoxville, but that’s o.k. It’s the dangerous ice and snow that can be a problem. Haven’t had too much of the white stuff here, but storms all around us.

The good news is that we are all well and very blessed. Hope you are too. Cherri for the Wades

  2. painting a map on the wall? that resonates! I’m bringing a map…
see ya in less than 2 weeks.

  3. Hi and I hope you do make a world map project map!

My name is Barbara Jo White (Dominican Republic’87-’89) and way back, I started/created the World Map Project. It’s 20 years old now and great to see PCVs still making maps! When you finish your map, I would love to put your pics up on the World Map Project site–I would also love to have more pics of maps in Nicaragua. If so, I sure would love to have pics to put up on the World Map Project website (http://tinyurl.com/makemaps). The free map making manual is there and lots of pics from maps around the world.I’m getting ready to update the gridded world map pages and publish the instructions (and map pages) in spanish. Please email me or send pics to peacecorpsworldmapproject@gmail.com or you can follow me and the project on Twitter @WorldMapProject

    Que le vaya bien!

    Barbara Jo

You can download an OLD copy of the instructions in spanish (feel free to let me know if there are mistakes, because I’m retyping them now!
