So after three months of training we have finally been sworn in as officially peace corp volunteers.. and it feels good. Time has really flown by and it is so crazy to think of how far we have come and what we have learned. It is amazing to think of myself when I first arrived in Nicaragua and my thoughts and expectations and how many have been realized and many are totally different.
Life is definitely going to be quite different in these upcoming months. It will be a huge adjustment going from living quite close to all the other trainees to having to catch a 5:30 am bus in order to just travel to the nearest town.. things will definitely be changing and I am so excited.
I am going to Leon and I will be living with an amazing family. The day is the leader of the community and he has three daughters.. that love to dance and are quite keen to have me dancing all the time as well, and his young son. He wife, Chepa, is really nice.. but communication wise she has a really difficult time understanding me which I always find ironic since she is actually one of the people I understand pretty clearly! The town is compact but spread out as well with about 1500-1600 people… decent size for an Aggie site!!! The main mode of transport there is riding on the front side saddle on another´s bike.. let me just say my body was never intended for this seated position to last more than 10 minutes.. my butt gets sooo sore.. i feel like a wimp cause I had to make them take breaks to let me rest my butt.. and I wasn´t even doin the work.. haha. Hopefully my rump will adjust with time!
So the riots and protests here in Managua are bizarre. They get dangerous at night and plan when they will bust our machettes and the loud gun contraptions.. but during the morning it is fine. I am glad that at least it is scheduled violence we can work around.. haha.
We will be staying one or two more nights in Managua and then off to our sites so begin our work here!!! Crazt crazy crazy.. but amazing all the same!!!
Scheduled violence huh? And dancing? Well I am in the wrong country!

Dance Joanna Dance! hehe, that makes me laugh. I’m sure you will enjoy dacing with your sisters. And riding a bike front side saddle sounds does sound slightly painful for the rump. When do you get your own bike?

or, in response to Katie’s comment, when do you get a pony to put the saddle on? Hi Katie!
You will toughen up when you get a bit more meat on your body. Eat more tortillas.
